Yet another Bambino Member who I have had the pleasure of following for the past 8 months. First while Katerina was in her mommy’s tummy and then as a newborn. Now she is back for her 6 month session and this little girl had me laughing so hard, I was almost in tears! Between her mommy, daddy and me, I don’t think you could see three sillier people dance around at one time… but not one smile cracked from Katerina. She was content to watch us make fools of ourselves and just take it all in.

I loved that about her! She was just being her… and I think we captured it perfectly! xox

I can’t tell you all how long I’ve been waiting to write this post… let’s just say it’s been coming for a LONG time!!

Not only am I a full time entrepreneur, trying to keep my head above water while running a business with no prior business knowledge, I’m also a wife and full time stay at home mommy to my two beautiful children, Ashleigh who’s 7 and Jake who’s 5. Over the past two years, I commuted both my children to school three (or more!) times a day, as well as all their extra curriculars, to the town next to us. We also had our house listed for the past year or so on and off, which required constant cleaning and organization (not easy for a house full of kiddos). And two months ago, just as the kids were being let out on summer holidays, we finally moved in to our dream house only to start the renovations. I can tell you that the last few years have been hectic to say the least. Ya know the feeling that you’re not quite doing any one thing to the BEST of your ability and that mainly you’re just doing EVERYTHING sorta average?

That was me.

But that is all coming to an end!!! We have now moved 3 mins walking distance from our kids’ school, they are now officially both in full time school, and here’s the best part…. wait for it…..

I hired a STUDIO MANAGER!!!!!!!

And not just any studio manager… no, no. This studio manager is a great friend of mind and an amazing photographer herself. I’ve known her for years now and I’m just so sure that you all are going to love her as much as I do. She has already started to fill the spot perfectly. It’s only day one and already I don’t know how I ever did this without her!

I am soooo happy to say that Shannon Stevenson will be joining me at Jillian Kirby | Baby!!!

For any of you that have followed me for the last couple years, you will remember when Shannon and I worked together at Lucy Lime Studios. That is where we came together and this is where we continue on our journey working our passion and loving what we do! For all of my new clients, I know that Shannon will give you the attention and understanding and every bit of service that I, myself, would. She will be corresponding with you over email, phone and meeting with you in the studio for print pick ups, etc. She will be regularly blogging and chatting on Facebook.

I am just so excited about this new step in JK Baby and I hope you are too! If any of you have any questions on how this will work, please feel free to give me a call or send me off an email. I would love to chat! Or if you just want to welcome Shannon to the team, feel free to send her a “Hello and Welcome” too!

But from me… Welcome Shannon. I am so happy to have you with me and I know this is going to be the start of something beautiful!

I don’t share my kids on here much… truthfully, it’s probably because I don’t take nearly enough professional photos of them. You know the old saying that a shoemaker’s children never have shoes? Yeah, the same may go for my children over periods of their lives… I do go on kicks though, usually once I’ve realized that it’s been way too long since I’ve had them in the studio!!

Well I decided to bring my daughter in to the studio this weekend… can you believe I’ve been in the new space for 6 months and have yet to photograph her in there?? I had a distinct vision of what I was wanting to achieve with this session and we nailed it perfectly! It helps that she’s stunning and an absolute natural in front of the camera (ok…. I may be a titch biased!! heehee).

I’m hopefully going to get my son in the studio this week sometime for his shots and I’ll post them if and when we get them done!

The first time I met this family was a couple years ago for a product shoot I did. Sophie was only about 6 months old but came in to model some children’s clothing. She was a stellar model! Well they’re back because Sophie is getting a little sister or brother!! And it was amazing… even a few years later, and she’s still an absolute natural in front of the camera! It’s clear where she gets it from… her mom is stunning! Check out the maternity session in the studio!

If you’ve had a session in my studio in the past few years, you’ll know that my studio was actually in my home…. and taking over my home completely as a matter of fact! While I absolutely adored being able to work out of my home, save the commute and keep things comfy and personal for my new families that I photographed, I didn’t like having to kick my family out of the house every time I had a session and I didn’t like losing my living room or dining room (as that’s where I shot from).

So, this weekend, I made the big leap in to a commercial space and am now the proud owner of a brand new natural light studio space in downtown Langley!!! I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to have this beautiful studio. I have spent all weekend giving it my personal touch and ensuring it still keeps that “comfort of home” feel that I pride myself on. Being a predominately newborn photographer, I love that my new mommas and daddies can come to my studio and know that they’ll have access to everything they need while I photograph their new little one.

I’m so excited to have this opportunity to expand as it will also open doors to allow me to offer many more amazing products that I simply did not have room for at my home space. Keep your eyes out for all the new products coming soon!

Here are a few photos! It’s not done… none of my canvases or prints are on the walls yet but hopefully within the next couple weeks we’ll have it all completed!

Today, my good friend brought her new little puppy Pressley to see me and she served as my first subject shot in the studio! I say I’m a baby photographer, but I never specified what kind right!?!

As my youngest is still not quite in full time school yet, the hours in my studio will be by appointment only but I look forward to meeting you all in the space soon!!

Remember Madison!? If you don’t, you have to check out her session from a year back. I photographed her when she was one year old and oh my gosh, she was just soooooo darling! Those cheeks, those eyes… to die for! Guess what! She’s back and she’s just as cute… if not cuter! Cause now she talks and every time she said anything I just had to giggle! It was just the sweetest thing!

She was absolutely enamored with my backdrop paper and repeated “momma, big piece of paper” about 20 times. It was the way she said it though… reminded me of when my Ash was that age. Their voices are very similar. Soooooo sweet!

We did a few in studio and then luckily, the clouds parted and we headed outside to the field for a few more shots.

Thank you B family for coming by last night. It was so much fun!

Every once in awhile, a certain person (or people) come in to your life that changes it for the better. They may have the same interests as you, they may lend a much needed hand, they may be a sounding board and great emotional support or you may just love who you are when you’re with them.

Meet the T family! That’s who they are to myself, my husband and my kids. They’re those friends who you just love to be around and who add a certain little something to our lives. I was just so happy to capture them… right here and now… freeze them in time. And I think I love these images I’m about to show you because that’s exactly what they represent. Exactly who the T family is. Now.

Don’t get me wrong. I love the perfectly posed photos too… there’s a place for those. But these. These are the photos that I hope mama will look back on in 25 years and I hope it brings a happy tear to her eye when they help her remember just how serene her little girl was when she snuggled her blankie and just how enthralled her boy was when he was examining a new toy truck and how absolutely perfect baby fit in to the whole equation. And most importantly, how much love there was between them that very sun-filled night that those images were captured. Because I was there… and there was a lot.

Out of Town

Hey All!!

I just wanted to mention quick that I’ll be out of town till Sunday. I’ll have very limited access to email and phone so if you try to contact me and don’t hear back, don’t fret! I’ll get back to you as soon as I can on Sunday!

And as I always say, no post can be a good one without an image! My little brother and his girlfriend are in town from Winnipeg this week… LOVE THEM!!! Took advantage of this gorgeous weather and I snapped a few shots of them tonight. Enjoy!

Kisses for Coltan | Langley, BC

On June 30, 2009 Coltan was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. He was only 9 months and 9 days old and nearly didn’t make it. The amazing staff at BC Children’s Hospital saved his life that day … now it is up to his family to save his life every day. Failure to keep his sugars at appropriate levels can result in seizures, coma and even death.

The Kisses for Coltan campaign would like you to help buy kisses for each poke and prick Coltan has had over the last year …

-> 17 pokes/pricks a day on average
-> 6205 pokes/pricks per year
-> 6205 x $5 for each kiss I get = $31025

KISSES FOR COLTAN CAMPAIGN

Shannon had the pleasure of taking Coltan and his mama out for a session last week… look at this little sweetheart, the youngest person with Type 1 diabetes in BC.

If you are interested in helping this little man in his efforts to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation please read this note from Coltan’s Mom, Meaghan:

I am so excited to finally announce the date of our Fundraising ‘Gala’ and Live Auction for the Kisses for Coltan Campaign in support of the JDRF and type 1 diabetes!!

When: Sunday, June 13
Doors open at 5pm
5 – 5:45pm – mingle, cash bar opens, view auction items
5:45pm – door prizes drawn, welcome speech (Fingers crossed on a surprise guest stopping by!!)
6:00 – 7:00pm – Buffet Dinner (Redwood burger buffet)
7:00pm – Live Auction starts, coffee/tea & dessert buffet

Cost: $25 per person

Today I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Miss Abigail. She was a total DREAM and slept the entire time! I heart sleepy babies.

Usually I suggest to parents that the newborn session might not be the best time to get sibling shots, just because we like to fuss with baby as little as possible to keep him/her in a good mood. And by the end of the session, little babes are usually done with me and my camera!! But Miss Abigail’s big sisters were so lucky cause not only did her grandma drive them out to my studio at the end of the session, but Abigail decided to sleep so nicely for the photo too!

Thank you to all the ladies today! I had such a nice morning with all of you and can’t wait to see you again!

Christmas is definitely a time to be with friends and family and for me, I really try to take that to heart and make sure I take some time away from the biz to spend time with the ones that I love. Having said that, photography is my passion and I just can’t stay away too long!! So today I headed outside with dear friends of ours to do their annual family shoot (a little late this year!). What a fantastic day for it… I was LOVING the light!! And Strachan… well he is becoming more of a ham with every year that passes! LOL

Thanks for the good times (and good sushi!!) today L family!! I had such a hard time choosing a few good ones… so hear ya go… you get a lot (which will be great for Dad as I swear he makes it his personal goal to make this blog!! ha ha!).

Today I met Eva and her mommy and daddy… and their new baby-to-be! I have never seen a child sooooo excited about getting a new little sibling. I can tell she’s going to be the best big sister ever!

There’s just something about a baby belly I totally love! And then meeting the baby after the birth… it’s the reason I got into this. Thank you G family for coming out today! See you in a month or so!!
