Mr. Evan is a bambino member so I have been lucky enough to document his mama’s belly, his newborn shots and now his 6 month session and it’s just so lovely to follow along as he has grown! Look how adorable he is!! I just want to pinch those little cheeks!

From the moment this little guy walked in, he completely stole my heart!! Look at this little face!! Just the sweetest… but more importantly, he had the most adorable little personality that one just can’t help but fall in love with. I adored all the little faces that he gave me and we had such a great time at the session. Thank you to Zach’s mommy for bringing him for the morning!

Mommy and Daddy were so excited when we told them we could squeeze them in for a session with their dear little Ariana! In my line of work, it seems that I’m either smokin’ busy cause all my babies decided to come in the same week, or it’s dead slow cause none of my mommas have given birth yet. Soooo, sometimes ya luck out when you call last minute, and that’s exactly what happened for Ariana! And aren’t I happy… cause look how absolutely adorable she is!!!!

Charlie is a Bambino Member so he was in here 7 months ago when he was a newborn… back when he was all tiny and sleepy and sweet. Well…. Charlie is still sooo sweet and what a little personality! I absolutely adored photographing him again and I can’t believe how much he looks like his newborn pictures!!

Last week I had a run of such unique names… I just love it! One of my clients once told me that she picked her baby name by going through my blog and looking at the last few years’ blog posts. I must say that I don’t get a lot of repeats… my clients are very original when they pick their baby’s names and that’s just how it should be!

Enter in Mr. Cezar! I absolutely adore it and he was definitely a “Cezar” if ever I saw one… strong, charming and stoic!

Another little PSA while I’m at it… I’ve had a lot of calls this week for newborn sessions and unfortunately I’m all booked up thru the New Year. I absolutely hate turning people away. If you’d like to have a session with me and you’re expecting, please try and book in as early as possible to ensure that you get a spot on our Due Date List. We only take a limited number of due dates a month to ensure that we can get your session done in a timely manner, no matter when your little one decides to make his/her appearance so contact us soon!

This little lady has the sweetest name! Actually I’ve had a week full of awesome-ly unique names and they’re all coming on the blog. Thank you to all my clients for being so patient while I recovered from pneumonia. I’m back on my feet (after a two week stint in bed!!) and am getting back at it and trying to frantically catch up on editing.

HUGE thanks goes out to my wonderful Studio Manager, Shannon, who kept the place running smoothly while I was out of commission! Not the best time of year to be sick!

What can I say? 6-8 month old babies just hold a special place in my heart. Something about their innocence and how content they are. It doesn’t take much to get a smile out of these little ones and when you do, it’s like you’ve won a prize.

Sweet Sienna was no different. Such a doll… no fuss, no muss. Just content, happy, adorable Sienna!

I absolutely adore my newborns that come in to the studio but sometimes it’s just so nice to work with adults. Sometimes it’s just a nice little change to work with subjects that can take direction! LOL

Matteo came by to see me and brought his adorable older sisters. I just absolutely adore these girls and had so much chatting with them while mommy fed little brother. And just look at him! Newborn Safety Week

The lovely people at Learn Shoot Inspire have planned and delegated this week to be named Newborn Safety Week in the photography industry. And I say, good for you LSI! I work in an amazing industry… full of artists and creators, and our subjects? Well they are these perfect, adorable, intoxicating new lives… newborn babies. How lucky are we, right? I’ll say it now and I’ll say it again, I feel sooo very fortunate that this is what I do in my life. To spend time with these brand new babies and their adoring parents is just something that can’t be explained. It’s like a wave of extreme happiness every day and of course, it’s contagious.

And while I may be one of the only photographers in BC that specializes in babies and newborns, I’m definitely not the only photographer in BC that attempts newborn photography either as a one time thing or as a side gig to a wedding photography business, family & child business, etc. And as a whole, we all need to be aware that there is a trend that is sweeping the industry… one where photographers are attempting posing and images that may be unsafe for their tiny little subjects all for the benefit of their portfolio. These poses look unnatural and unattainable by a baby on it’s own, however when posed just right by a photographer, it can sometimes result in an image that is deemed the “it” pose of the moment.

I feel like in order to save feelings I may be skirting around the issue and as a result babbling… so I’m going to come out and say it… Well experienced photographers sometimes create images of babies posing in unrealistic positions through techniques in photoshop. The image isn’t real, nor did the baby do it himself. The photographer creates the images through help from 1, 2 and sometimes 3 people, combining multiple exposures and special techniques in photoshop. For the less experienced photographer seeing this new and exciting image, this fact may not be known. And as such, the new photographer attempts the pose and allows the baby to achieve it himself or attempts the shot without taking proper precautions, sometimes resulting in a dangerous situation for the baby.

It’s taboo to talk about… I suppose it’s not good manners to “bad mouth” one’s own peers. However, if even one new photographer reads this blog post and decides to be a little more careful at his/her next newborn session, I feel like it’s worth it. PLEASE, please go read this fantastic article by my dear friend and fellow newborn photographer, Stephanie Robin. And at our next session, let’s all take a minute to reflect on the real reason we’re there to get those adorable shots… not so we can improve upon our portfolio, or prove to our peers that we have what it takes, but so that we can capture these illusive and fleeting moments for the new mommy and daddy who may be too overwhelmed and too sleep deprived to remember the pout of her lips, or the curve of his ear, or the adorable dimple she had from the moment she was born. Let’s take a moment to remember that we are here to create beautiful images of our clients and their babies and no fancy tricks are needed. They will love those images of their baby whether they are hanging from a tree branch or whether they are lying wrapped up in a blanket in a cushy pillow, snoozing the morning away.

This little guy was sooooo charming! With the gorgeous eyes and the contagious smile… I just wanted to photograph him all day long! 6 months old is THE PERFECT age to come in and get shots done after the newborn session. Edward is a member of the Bambino program and was last in when he was newborn. His image now graces the entrance wall of the studio. It’s been so nice to watch him grow!

Thank you to his mommy and daddy for bringing him out to see me!

Mentoring

I’ve been restructuring my One-on-One Mentoring program lately… it’s going to be all new with some great online elements for those of you that don’t want to/can’t travel. It’s taking me a while to implement it but I’m hoping it’s worth the wait!

Karin is one of the last photographers to come in and get the current version of the mentoring system and it was so great to have her there for the morning and go over the proper techniques and safety issues of posing a newborn baby. She is so inspired and so full of ideas and it’s wonderful being around people like that. It’s contagious!

Thank you Karin for spending your morning with me! I hope you walked away with some new knowledge and ideas!!

Thank you to the models and their parents for giving me their mornings. Both families were just so wonderful and check out how adorable these two little men were!!
